Can We Talk? An Invitation to Election Directors

On October 2, 2008, Show Me The Vote!! felt compelled, by recent events and discoveries, to send a packet of material to each of Missouri's 122 Election Directors. In most of Missouri's 114 counties the County Clerk also serves as the Election Director.

However, in St. Louis, Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties, and in the both the City of Kansas City and the City of St. Louis, there are two bi-partisan Election Directors who work under an Election Board, or Election Commission, whose members are appointed by the Governor of the State of Missouri.

The members of the Election Boards, or Commissions, are also bi-partisan. The sole exception to this rule is the County of St. Charles which elects a single individual Election Commissioner whose sole function, unlike the various county clerks in the remaining 107 counties, is the oversight of election in that county.

The packet we sent contained three documents; a) a courtesy copy of Show Me The Vote!!'s 10 Point Credo, http://showmethevote.org/10_point_creed, b) a copy of our Open Letter to all Missouri Election Officials, and c) a reply form and a self-addressed stamped envelope with which to mail the reply to SMTV!!
